CHSLD Herron: “a ping-pong match” between the CIUSS and Herron, says the coroner

What happened at CHSLD Herron, from March 29 to April 11, 2020, was “a ping-pong match” between the management of this private establishment and the CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’Île-de- Montreal, says coroner Géhane Kamel.

The coroner is currently investigating the fate of vulnerable seniors during the first phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, in particular at the Herron residence in Dorval.

On Thursday, during the various testimonies, the parties focused on the difficulties of recruiting personnel, especially for beneficiary attendants, as well as the difficulties in obtaining protective equipment for the personnel on site and difficulties in obtaining even the keys to the CHSLD premises.

A nurse by profession, who came from the CIUSSS as a coordinator to organize the staff on site, indicated that she was unable to make schedules, because the employees promised by the management of Herron simply did not show up.

She had also asked for the keys to Herron’s premises and had been refused. It was her superior from the CIUSSS who had to intervene to obtain them.
