Bolaños and Vilagrà meet this Wednesday in Madrid to try to redirect relations

It was expected. After the Andalusian elections on June 19, the Government tries to resume the pending issues. And one of them was the dialogue with ERC. For this reason, tomorrow, Wednesday, the Minister of the Presidency, Felix Bolanos, and the ‘consellera’ of Presidency, Laura Vilagra. It will be, on this occasion, in Madrid, in Moncloa, according to ‘La Vanguardia’ and sources from the Executive and the Government confirmed. After the meeting, the minister will address the media starting at 6:30 p.m.

Both managers already saw each other in April, at the Palau de la Generalitat, face to face, shortly after the ‘Pegasus case’ broke out, to try to redirect relations. It was not possible. Later, Pedro Sánchez called for a meeting with Pere Aragonès. But more than a month has passed and that appointment has not taken place. Difficulties were first alleged in matching agendas, but later the head of the Executive himself let Congress see that the one who was delaying the meeting was the Generalitat.

And it was like this: for the Government, more gestures were needed from Sánchez, and not a simple photo. But the Andalusians also crossed paths, and the socialist leader promised his party’s candidate, Juan Espadas, as this newspaper published, not to make any gesture with Catalonia that could cloud the campaign, aware that it could be taken advantage of by a right-wing that was anticipated fired and that on Sunday signed an absolute historical majority in the most populated community in Spain.

But now the elections have been aired, with a catastrophic result for the PSOE, and the Government needs to rebuild bridges with ERC to stabilize the legislature. After straining relations with the Republicans (they have never broken), the Executive has pulled variable geometry to carry out its initiatives without counting on their votes. Not without wear and tear, because every week has become a roller coaster for the socialists. In a suffering.

From Moncloa, however, it has been pointed out that there will be no more gestures towards the Generalitat, because the ‘Pegasus case’ is considered amortized, because a head has already been offered (that of the director of the National Intelligence Center, Paz Esteban ) and because the president himself also promised in Congress to accelerate the new official secrets law – which could soon reach the Council of Ministers in first reading – and prepare a new regulation of the CNI to reinforce judicial control. But until now the Executive has refused an ex officio declassification of the documents that justified the espionage of 18 pro-independence leaders -it will do so only by judicial request-, and Sánchez does not have in mind, or so they say in his environment, the fall of Defense Minister Margarita Robles.
