All Quebec daycare unions leave work on Tuesday

The contract dispute between the Legault government and the province’s daycare workers escalated on Tuesday, with the three daycare unions leaving work for the first time since they began their separate strike campaigns.

Some workers demonstrated in front of the offices of the Quebec Family Ministry in Montreal while another protest was held in front of the offices of the Treasury Board in Quebec City.

Workers affiliated with the CSN began their strike on Monday and will be out of work until the end of Thursday. CSQ affiliates withdrew on Monday and will remain on strike until the end of Wednesday, at which point members will be asked to endorse a mandate for an unlimited strike.

Workers represented by the FTQ began his strike on Tuesday and will return to work on Friday.
