Arturo Herrera and Luis Felipe López Calva will have management positions at the World Bank


Arturo Herrera Gutierrezformer Secretary of Finance and Public Credit in the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, would have been appointed to the position of global government director of the World Bank, as revealed Gerardo Esquivel, deputy governor of the Bank of Mexico.

Gerardo Esquivel also revealed that Luis Felipe Lopez Calvato date with a position in the UN, was appointed General Director of Poverty and Equity at the World Bank.

“It is a pleasure to know today that the World Bank announced the appointment of two Mexicans as global directors: Arturo Herrera, from Government, and Luis Felipe López Calva, from Poverty and Equity (…) Both are excellent economists and better people. Congratulations!” Gerardo Esquivel said on social networks.

The World Bank has not yet officially communicated the appointment of the two Mexicans in these positions.

Arturo Herrera, 56 years old and an economist graduated from UAM Iztapalapa, was Secretary of the Treasury from December 13, 2018 to July 9, 2019, replacing Carlos Urzua and he even left that position to assess the possibility of joining the governing board of the Bank of Mexico, an application that President López Obrador later declined to promote to push the name of Victoria Rodriguez Ceja for the same position.

Luis Felipe López Calva, for his part, is still the director for Latin America of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
