Kingston Police warns that females are being followed in the University District


Kingston Police has issued an alert notifying the University District community about ongoing suspicious activity that is occurring within and around the Queen’s University area. The alert is targeted towards females who are at risk of being followed.

Police say that they have been made aware of “multiple instances of a male approaching females in a vehicle” on the following dates:

  • Saturday, March 5th, 2022 at approximately 2:00 am
  • Tuesday, March 8th, 2022 at approximately 11:45 pm
  • Wednesday, March 9th, 2022 at approximately 12:30 am

Specifically, the incidents have been occurring in the areas of Bader Lane, Albert Street and Stuart Street.

“That does not exclude a wider area university-wide or beyond, but this is the concentrated area of ​​reports at this stage of the investigation,” Kingston Police added.

The encounters involve a male approaching in his vehicle, following slowly behind females or even waiting for them to pass as they walk by and then following.

Kingston Police also warn that the male has gone as far as to turn his vehicle around to follow the females and has attempted to engage them in conversation. He has had his window down when he attempts to communicate with the women.

The male in question is described as Caucasian, is approximately 20-30 years of age with brown hair and is clean shaven with possible stubble. The male may be wearing a gray toque with his ears covered and strings dangling from the hat.

There is no license plate or make and model at present, but the vehicle is described as being a white four door, sedan-style, motor vehicle. There is light tint applied on the windows however, they are still transparent enough to see inside/through the vehicle.

Police are asking members of the community, especially pedestrians, to please follow safety tips of not being alone at night and remaining aware of their surroundings at all times.
