The former chief of human resources for the Canadian Armed Forces has been charged with sexual assault and indecent acts, military police announced Tuesday.
Vice Admiral Haydn Edmundson’s case has now been transferred to the civilian judicial system, according to a short statement from the Defense Department.
Edmundson is the former CAF chief of military personnel.
Stephanie Viau, a retired CAF member, alleged in a CBC News interview last March that Edmundson exposed her genitalia and raped her while serving in the navy in the early 1990s.
Edmundson was his superior officer at the time.
He denied the allegations, CBC reported.
“My client will not comment further on this matter except to say that we will wait for justice to take its course,” Viau’s attorney, Paul Champ, said in an email Tuesday.
