The Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Meteocat) has warned of the possibility of “violent weather” phenomena such as tornadoes, hail and strong gusts of wind in Terres de l’Ebre (Tarragona). These phenomena can occur first thing in the morning on Tuesday.
In Tortosa (Baix Ebre, Tarragona) intense rains have been registered since 6 am and the Bombers of the Generalitat have carried out three rescues of people who had been trapped inside their cars in flooded areas in and around the city. In a note on Twitter, the Bombers have called to avoid circulating “if it is not necessary”, and have explained that up to 7 hours they have acted in six incidents in the Tarragona area and in 15 in Terres de l’Ebre (Tarragona ). Calls to telephone 112 for incidents related to rain have been concentrated in Baix Ebre (20), Montsià (12) and Tarragonès (8), explained Protecció Civil de la Generalitat.
Starting in the afternoon, the heaviest rains will move to the northeast and other points on the coastline and pre-littoral. Showers will be moderate or locally strong in the south and on the coast, and at the end of the day in the northeast. In the south, the rain can be torrential (more than 40mm in 30 minutes). Very abundant quantities may be accumulated (between 50 and 100 mm in 24 hours), or extremely abundant locally (more than 100 mm in 24 hours), also in the extreme south. At some specific point, more than 200 mm could accumulate.
The snow level will move between 1,600 and 1,800 meters.
Minimum temperatures will rise slightly in most of the territory. The highs will tend to fall, and will not exceed 17 degrees.
In the north of the Costa Brava there will be very strong gusts of tramuntana.
