Shots fired at a Surrey Mounted Police officer during an attempt to stop traffic – BC | The Canadian News

The Major Crimes Section of the Surrey Mounted Police is investigating after someone shot an officer during an attempt to stop traffic on Friday night.

The officer tried to stop traffic with a black sedan heading west on 82nd avenue near 128th street around 9:55 p.m.

When the officer turned on the hazard lights, RCMP says the driver of the sedan reached his vehicle’s window and fired two shots at the officer.

The officer followed the vehicle for a short time before stopping for public safety.

RCMP confirmed that the officer was not injured, but they are shocked by the events.

“At this time, the vehicle is described as a black sedan. Obtaining a more detailed description of the vehicle and the driver is a top research priority, ”Surrey RCMP said in a statement.

Anyone who sees the suspicious vehicle is urged not to approach it and should call 911, as the police consider the driver to be armed and dangerous.

“The public will notice an increased police presence in the area, with the Surrey Gang Enforcement Team and the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit also assisting in the area,” the statement added.

There is a road closure in effect at 82 Avenue between 128 Street and 124 Street while investigators gather evidence.

The police are asking any witnesses or anyone with camera footage to contact them.
