A dance school is going up in smoke in Granby

A fire completely devastated the Dufferin Dance Center in Granby, Montérégie, in the middle of the night from Thursday to Friday.

The fire broke out around 2:30 a.m. in this building occupied by the International Dance School. The flames had already spread when firefighters arrived on site.

“It was violent and a big fire. When we arrived, a large part of the roof had collapsed and part of the front wall gave way shortly after, ”Claude, the head of the prevention division of the City of Granby’s fire department, told the QMI Agency. Royer.

About thirty firefighters were dispatched to the site, rue Dufferin, and fire departments from surrounding towns lent tanks to support their colleagues.

Undetermined cause

“We are keeping the investigation for the moment and the nature of the fire remains to be determined,” added Royer, adding that no one was injured and that the one-story building is a total loss.

Nearby houses were damaged in the heat, as were vehicles, including a fire engine, and power lines.

A mechanical shovel was used to gain access to part of the building to ensure that the fire was well and truly contained.
