5G network: Telcel receives flag

The news is that Telcel, a subsidiary of América Móvil, chaired by Daniel Hajj Aboumrad, will now be able to offer 5G mobile services.

Yesterday the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT), chaired by Adolfo Cuevas, unanimously approved the authorization for the largest mobile phone company in Mexico to use the 3.5 Gigahertz (GHz) band for mobile services.

And with this opens the fierce competition in Mexico in the field of the fifth generation network (5G), which is the watershed of technology in the world.

The first blow in Mexico was given by the American company AT&T, headed by Mónica Aspe.

The announcement of its launch was made on December 8 and coverage has already started in some neighborhoods of Mexico City.

According to the plans of that company, in the next three years it will deploy 5G in the main markets of the country, starting with the most important cities.

His intention is to close the year with a couple more cities. Now, with the starting signal for Telcel, most likely as of this month (it is speculated that as of February 18 of this month), it could jump into the arena of competition in the 5G network.

5G? What is it about?

But what is the 5G Network? And what is its importance?

Well, the 5G network is the most advanced in the world in terms of networks for mobile services.

The 5G network, in addition to a much higher speed, is the basis of a massive ecosystem for the development of the Internet of Things (IoT).

Experts in the field say that with 5G, networks can meet the communication needs of billions of connected devices, with the right trade-offs between speed, latency and cost.

clearance

As I was saying, yesterday the regulatory body unanimously approved Telcel’s authorization to use the 3.5GHz band for mobile services.

This is very important because this is the frequency that they set up their 5-G network on.

There are 18 concessions in the 3.4 to 3.7 GHz band that included the 50 MHz that Telmex had and the 50 MHz that they just bought from Axtel.

It must be remembered that this band was originally only used for fixed services. Over time, the authorities decided to switch their use to mobile services.

To put it graphically, it is like when in the case of a house for residential use, commercial use is authorized.

Well, by virtue of this change of use, the 3.4 and 2.7 Ghz bands can be used by Telcel to offer mobile telephony services.

Telcel could not offer services in the 5G band because it did not have the appropriate frequencies.

But to make the IFT change, it charged Telcel a consideration imposed by the Ministry of Finance.

In June of last year, Telcel asked the IFT for authorization to offer 5G mobile services from the 3.5 Gigahertz band.

Yesterday it finally became a reality and Telcel obtained the authorization. The concessions in the 3.5 GHz that Telcel has will expire in the year 2040 and those that belonged to Axtel will expire in the year 2038. But beyond the technical, the truth is that With this banner the duel in Mexico begins, of the titans of telecommunications in the country, in the latest technology band for mobile services in the world.

We will see.

BANXICO.- Today Banxico will make the decision to raise the reference interest rate. It will be the first time that the new governor Victoria Rodríguez participates in the vote. Expectations are split between 25 and 50 basis points. The decision is relevant to anchor inflationary expectations and will mark Rodríguez’s position. We will see.

SURPRISE.- Aeroméxico, directed by Andrés Conesa, gave the surprise. He announced yesterday that he will start operations from the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) with routes to Mérida and Villahermosa, starting in April, with which he joins VivaAerobus and Volaris that will inaugurate the terminal.
