British submarine found almost 80 years after its disappearance

University of Malta archaeologists have made a discovery that puts an end to 79 years of mystery. Wreckage of a submarine was found at the entrance to the port of Valletta, more than 100 meters deep ; this is HMS Urge, a British vessel.

The Royal Navy had lost its trace on April 27, 1942, as it left Malta to head for the waters of the eastern Mediterranean, heading for Alexandria in Egypt. He had 44 people on board.

Research began in 2017, and the spacecraft was spotted in 2019 by an autonomous submarine. These images confirm that it is indeed the British submersible. According to the professor Timmy Gambin, at the head of the expedition, the combat vessel would probably have been hit by a German mine.
