Airbnb will cancel and block all reservations in the Washington DC metropolitan area during opening week, after finding accounts on the platform of “numerous people who are associated with hate groups or who are involved in criminal activity on Capitol Hill.” , the company reported on Wednesday morning.

The ad cited reports Tuesday “about known armed militias and hate groups trying to travel and disrupt the inauguration”; and warnings from region leaders that visitors should refrain from traveling to the District for the next week.

The company said it will reimburse guests and hosts for canceled reservations. Airbnb has also banned from the platform all people associated with hate groups or involved in the takeover of the Capitol last week.

The announcement comes two days after Airbnb launched a seven-step plan to keep neighborhood hosts and residents safe, which included canceling the reservations of any guests associated with hate groups.

It is the latest effort to keep people out of the nation’s capital as threats of armed marches mount and thousands of law enforcement officers guard central Washington.
