Despite Corona, foreign students want to study in Germany, many of them Chinese. Working with the important partner country is not always easy for the DAAD.

TDespite the Corona crisis, the interest of foreign students in studying in Germany is almost unbroken. The number of international students is over 80 percent of the previous year, so the decrease is almost 20 percent, while the United States, according to current estimates, has recorded a more pronounced decrease of a good 30 percent. The beneficiaries of the American losses are the British universities, which are even seeing an increase in non-EU students. Students from Africa and Asia are now choosing the UK.

For them, the Brexit discussion, which has slowed the influx of EU students, does not matter. France is aggressively soliciting foreign students and giving their visa applications a preferential treatment. The other European countries are not sleeping, even if their corona situation is much more difficult. All foreign students were able to travel to Germany, as all German universities and colleges are planning a hybrid semester in winter with the largest possible attendance, especially for freshmen and international students. This even applies to students from risk areas who had to comply with the relevant quarantine regulations.
