Yucatan adds tourism investments for almost 30,000 million pesos: Sefotur

Acapulco, Gro. Security, the implementation of a policy of decentralization, generation and care of tourism products, as well as resilience and integration of all public and private sectors, are the factors that have allowed Yucatan and to have an accumulated investment for the tourism sector close to 30,000 million pesos.

Within the framework of the inauguration of the 2022 edition of the Tourist Tianguis, the head of the Tourism Development Secretariat (Sefotur) from Yucatan, Michelle Fridman Hirsch, made known to The Economist the new cash cut on the amount of private capital available, of which 34.7% belongs only to hotels.

“Investment has arrived in hotels, restaurants, shopping centers, tourist parks, a lot of development,” he said.

He referred that although from the beginning of the current administration of the governor, Mauricio Vila Dosal, he opted for the attraction of private capital and the detonation of tourism products (as an example, only in his first two years of government, more than 150 new products), it was due to the pandemic that the diversification strategy was sharpened, which triggered the increase in investment.

“Diversification has been positive, we began to apply it since the pandemic and I think it is what allowed us to recover faster from the pandemic. Yucatan I was doing a job that was very focused on meeting tourism and it was the most affected segment. Fortunately, the fact that we have gone to adventure tourism, sun and beach, made it possible for us to recover faster. So, I think so, the trend is to decentralize and diversify, it is the most appropriate”, he added.

the owner of Sefotur indicated that precisely a decree of incentives was implemented to increase investments outside Merida; According to the document, among the most notable benefits is the one applied to the Lodging Tax for a new complex located outside the Yucatecan capital, since for the first two years of the start of operations a 100% discount is made, while the third is 50 percent.

“This decree aims to grant fiscal incentives to investors to encourage and promote new investments in infrastructure and services for the tourism sector, as a fundamental means to promote economic development in the interior of the state,” reads the document.

In addition to diversification, the local official explained that the promotion of Yucatan It has focused on three points: one is security, highlighting that it is not only the safest destination in Mexico, but also that it is among the best in the world; two, the infrastructure (roads, the airport that has just doubled its capacity); and third promotion of the division of the tourist offer).

security, priority

Michelle Fridman stressed that it will precisely be the security element in the entity, which will be presented in the series of business appointments and promotional actions to be carried out in this edition of the Tianguis Turístico.

He stated that the appointments and actions to be presented at this event held in the Imperial World Expo in Riviera Diamante Acapulco, since with them the recovery plan for the pandemic would be fulfilled.

“We set ourselves the goal that 2022 is the year of recovery (…) We believe that 2022, in general, is going to be the year of recovery,” he added.

The secretary highlighted that in terms of air connectivity, the entity continues to recover, since it has 78% of domestic routes and international routes have already exceeded pre-pandemic levels.

“We have more international flights than before the pandemic and we are doing very well in domestic flights, especially if we consider the challenges that national aviation has faced,” he commented.
