Enmax bonuses are shocking

Announcement 2

article content

I am stunned and disgusted by the bonuses and severance payments that have been awarded to me.or various Enmax executives. How can this be? Surely they must be embarrassed to announce this at the same time that Enmax is cutting services for customers who cannot pay their bill in full.

Is this 2022? Do we not help our neighbor?

Alberta’s budget is not what it seems

In recent years, it has become Alberta government practice to exclude capital expenditures from the budget as if they did not count. I can’t find anything now to suggest this has changed. Thus, when $6.7 billion in capital spending is taken into account, the government still spends more than it takes in. Simple arithmetic tells me that the Alberta government still has a deficit, not the surplus that is advertised to the public.

Maple Leaf continues to represent Canada strong

While I fully agree with Wendell Koning’s disgust in his June 28 letter, I think it would be a mistake not to lovingly display our fabulous Canadian Maple Leaf. Yes, ignorant people abused our flag in many ways during the so-called “Freedom Protest”, but our flag still represents the strong democracy we have been blessed with. In fact, it was the use of the Emergencies Law, created and approved by our government in 1988, that allowed the police to carefully break up the illegal demonstration.

I’ll be leaving mine for some time after we celebrate Canada Day.

Stop Police Helicopter Surveillance

Announcement 4

article content

For several months, our quiet West Hillhurst neighborhood has been subject to daily helicopter surveillance, beginning at 6:45 am every weekday (7:45 am on weekends) and continuing late into the night. The helicopter is very loud, as it can be heard inside our house, with the windows closed. According to the Calgary Police website, they have two helicopters that cost $5.5 million each. Its purpose is to provide support to ground forces. However, given the extended daily flight tours, it is doubtful that these helicopters are responding to any particular emergency.

We ask the police to keep their helicopters on the ground until they are really needed. Calgarians should not feel like they are living in a police state. If Mayor Jyoti Gondek is serious about reducing harassment, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and optimizing a growing police budget, she should revisit this strategy of continuous helicopter surveillance.

Canadian Energy Center reaches millions of people

The Canadian Energy Center is an unwavering advocate for our unrivaled energy sector, spreading that important message throughout Canada, the United States and Europe.

But it doesn’t appear that Herald columnist and 770 CHQR radio host Rob Breakenridge has noticed (Herald column, June 28).

The CEC is waging an aggressive campaign showing why Canadian oil and gas should be the world’s preferred choice for responsibly produced energy.

There will be substantial demand for oil and gas for decades to come, even as renewables become more prominent.

Our $6 million national Made the Canadian Way campaign assures Canadians that they can rest easy knowing that the Canadian oil and gas they use is produced to the highest standards.

Through the Internet and television, our ads have so far been seen by more than 10 million people across the country.

In the US, we are promoting Canada as the solution to North America’s energy security. Conservative estimates show that our newspaper, video and digital ads have been viewed by more than 15 million Americans over 14 weeks. More than 1.2 million people have visited the CanadaIsTheSolution.com campaign website.

Another campaign called on G7 lawmakers and leaders meeting in Germany to tell Canada to speed up resource development amid the growing global energy crisis.

The CEC operates its main website, in addition to six other promotional and campaign websites, and 13 social media platforms across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn, in both English and French.

In June, nearly 2.5 million people viewed CEC content across these various social media channels, while hundreds of thousands of people visited our websites.

The CEC does not shy away from constructive criticism. We only ask critics to review all of our work.

Tom Olsen is the CEO and Managing Director of the Canadian Energy Centre.
