Brady Tkachuk should fire whoever is advising him not to sign the contract offered by the Sens, even if the rumors that they are his father and brother are true.

What Tkachuk doesn’t see is the public’s lack of patience after dealing with COVID deaths, job losses, business closings, foreclosures, unnecessary elections, masked versus unmasked, empty versus non-empty, etc. In light of this, for any 22-year-old man to think he deserves more than $ 8 million a year is beyond pale and shows Ottawa that he thinks he is bigger than the Sens.

What worries me most is the wastefulness of our government. I believe that during the pandemic our economy required a large injection of capital to respond to a public health crisis, to help keep people housed and fed, and to support companies in times of little business. However, it has gone much further and now we have a huge amount of debt and we are in a very vulnerable position when (and not if) interest rates go up.

And our prime minister says he is not concerned about monetary policy. Well, of course it isn’t now; the only options our government has had to combat inflation are contractionary, either to increase interest rates or to implement price and wage controls. We cannot afford to raise interest rates now because we are buried under a mountain of debt. Guess what that leaves? Price and wage controls, as implemented by Pierre Trudeau in the 1970s.

Our economy will not be able to grow under such limitations and our standard of living will decline. We are now condemned to repeat the mistakes that a previous Trudeau administration made 45 years ago.
