IT DOESN’T SEEM SO TEMPORARY

Now that Ontario’s “temporary” vaccination passport program is in place, one wonders how “temporary” it will be.
If, as Prime Minister Doug Ford “assures” us, it is truly temporary, why is the province taking the time, trouble, and expense of developing and implementing and forcing citizens to go through the hurdles and aggravation? to switch next month to an app and a QR code? ?
Surely, if it’s going to be as temporary as Ford claims, the existing vaccination form and photo ID would suffice; even if temporary turned out to be 10 or 12 months. Why waste additional expenses for a “temporary” need?
The requirement to provide proof will become permanent. Just wait and see. After all, nothing is more permanent than any “temporary” government program or initiative.

If, for the 2022 provincial elections, they do not end or an end date is not announced, the termination of my support for the Ontario Conservatives will also be temporary. Find out, Doug Ford.

(Deadlines have never been helpful in this pandemic. How long is temporary, be it passports or health measures, remains the big question.)
KAPUT LRT NOWHERE
Re: TSB: LRT train left station in ‘derailed condition’, online edition, Sep 21
This entire LRT project has been derailed from conception to construction to so-called “completion.” It is a system contracted by amateurs (mayor and city council), overseen by OC Transpo, who had / had no experience with successful light rail, and used only by commuters with no other options.

Face the facts. Ottawa was stained. And it is too arrogant to seek advice from cities that already operate successfully light rail systems in similar weather conditions. The capital of Up North has been derailed. Again.
But there is no need to worry. The Council will begin discussing this latest derailed debacle in October. Who cares? Anyway, nothing will be done. The people who approved of this mess are still in charge of this mess. The mayor’s free December media cameo will do the trick.

(Is it too late for the council to guide our LRT system out of the ditch? Residents will not tolerate any more derailments and breakdowns. It is doubtful that they will also agree to throwing more money into the system.)
THEY SHOULD NOT BLAME RTG

It is ridiculous that councilors blame RTG for the train problems. It was the city councilors, under the advice of city staff, who voted for the system that we have from time to time for the future.
JANE MCGUIRE
(A lot of blame, but not a lot of solutions. And the southern extension in Stage 2 is scheduled to go live next year. Will anything be resolved by then? Or will we have even more problems?)
SO PROGRESSIVE
When, exactly, did the word progressive become so misused and distorted? After 36 days of hearing the word ad nauseam, I had to reconfirm its definition. It means “of, related to, or characterized by progress.” While the Canadian electorate still takes comfort in its “progression,” our former allies are well aware of our rapid regression.

AS IF EVERYTHING IS ENOUGH …
As if climate change, melting ice, severe and unusual storms and the sacrifice of $ 610 million for a futile election weren’t enough, we had to watch the most powerful country in the world succumb and kneel before a group of uneducated thugs. who are completely devoid of ethics or moral values in Afghanistan. As the Islamist group regains its power and reverts to its barbaric rules, young women and girls will suffer severely.
This mockery of common sense has been a boon to Beijing’s leaders as they solidify their dominance in what they now consider their backyard. Seeing the West’s weakness has further encouraged the Chinese military to sharpen its nails and target Taiwan directly.

(The Taliban wasted no time in regaining Kabul when the Americans withdrew. This is clearly not a strong message for the United States to send to its rivals.)
