Yon González: “Little by little I discovered the job that I live by, I enjoy and it means everything to me”

Since he became known in the already mythical series ‘El internado’, Yon González (Vergara, Guipúzcoa, 1986) has been chained roles on television in successful productions such as ‘Grand Hotel’, ‘Under Suspicion’ and ‘Cable Girls’, which has the honor of being the first Netflix series in Spain. Now it is Hugo Llor, the protagonist of “The heirs of the earth” (Netflix), that long-awaited second part of ‘The Cathedral of the Sea’, also based on the homonymous novel by Idelfonso Falcones, in which he plays a man who is capable of all kinds of evil despite his enormous kindness. by your sideElena Rivera actress with whom he coincided in ‘The Who’ and ‘Losing the north’, two comedies in which they laughed, instead of suffering. Because in ‘The heirs of the earth’ they do it. All the time.

Jordi Fraderas thought of you for ‘The Cathedral of the Sea’, but due to scheduling problems it couldn’t be. He has achieved it in ‘The heirs of the earth’.

It has been a gift to be able to participate in the second part. And super happy because it has been an ideal shoot: effective, dynamic, fresh. And being in the hands of Jordi Frades, who is a great ship’s captain, that is the great result. Because for having recorded each chapter in 10 days… Bravo for the production company, Diagonal (Banijay Iberia)!

A chapter every 10 days?

That means that there is a super good organization.

And that with the pandemic, with so many people crowded together, it must not have been easy to shoot.

If the truth. Because at that time there were many contagions, and while in other series they had to stop, here they did not have to. And being 70% outdoors, and with so many appearances and everything, there have been almost no infections. That is thanks to the great security that the production company has had when handling the virus.

‘The Cathedral of the Sea’ was a great success. Has the responsibility of maintaining the level or the pride of participating in a blockbuster weighed more heavily?

Both. Responsibility, because the first season is phenomenal and the actors are wonderful. I loved it. And then, when they told me to do the second one, I didn’t hesitate. In addition, it was the same director and it is a pride and pleasure to be in the hands of this man, who knows very well what he does. It has been a dynamic shooting and with a very big point of feeling at home. To feel protected.

He had worked with Aitor, his brother, on ‘Gran Reserva’, but on ‘Los hederos…’ they don’t coincide, because they belong to two generations.

Arnau Estanyol (Aitor’s character) coincides with my character when David Solans plays him. And with Solans he has also coincided little in time. Shortly after sponsoring him, something happens… I don’t want to do ‘spoilers’.

How has it been seen in David Solans, who gives life to his character as a young man?

Seeing it I thought: what art he had when he was young! Because it’s great, it’s wonderful. He does a very nice job. I am also happy with my work. I think it’s in its place. Although it is the public that must say it.

Hugo Llor is, above all, a kind character. And that it seems difficult to maintain that goodness with everything that happens.

He knows how to put hate and anger, and all those negative and ugly things, in a good place and give it a good look, which is not easy. That’s very nice and says a lot about him.

How would you define your character?

He is a man who looks at everyone equally. We are all people and we are here for a while. And then each one defines himself and places himself on the side of the bad guys. Like the Puigs, who are the evil ones. That is where the differences lie. Hugo is a man who wants the common good and that people live in peace and harmony. Well, like myself (laughs).

Do you identify with him?

Like everyone else, in general. Everyone wants to live well and in harmony, and if you have to throw a cable, motherfucking.

Not everyone. Putin, for example, is not for the job. He falls more into the Puig category.

And so. The human being luckily evolves, but in small steps. Because what happened to this gentleman, to make a war like this all of a sudden, is nonsense.

There will be three women in Hugo’s life. They exert a great influence on him at different stages of his life.

The woman is his friend, his partner… The person with whom he fights and from whom he allows himself to be advised, sometimes. A traveling companion, because he believes in love and in the idyllic. And in that of one for the other. This gentleman is very nice.

Had you worked with Elena Rivera?.

Yes, although only in one scene in ‘The Who’. And then we made a movie, ‘Losing the north’.

That was a long time ago. And they were comedies. Nothing to do with what they suffer in ‘The heirs…’

Yes, we laughed there.

Hugo wanted to be a shipbuilder, but he ended up being a winegrower. Did the same thing happen to you or did you already dream of being an actor when you were little, did you change throughout your life?

No, life has been giving me things and I have been taking advantage of them. When I was little I had no idea if I wanted to be an actor, really (laughs). But then it came up, I tried, I loved he kido, they gave me a second chance and I took advantage of it. And I kept growing and growing and little by little discovering a trade that luckily now I live, enjoy and is everything to me.

You have done very interesting things in your career. Like participating in the first Netflix series, ‘The Cable Girls’.

One of the reasons I did that series was for Netflix. And because it was made by Bambú, a production company with which he had worked for almost a decade.

In productions like the successful ‘Gran Hotel’.

Yes, and I said to myself: why not repeat? In addition, it was the first production for Netflix. Everything looked very nice. So it was. Because the series was very well received, I liked it a lot, and it brought me many things. Very happy with Bamboo, ‘The cable girls’ and Netflix. And that everything flows (laughs).

‘The heirs…’ will have a lot of life: first, Netflix; then Antena 3 and TV-3. By the way, how much visibility do the platforms give them?

Yes, these series and the platforms make you known all over the world. And I have always worked on products that have been made here in Spain. I am very happy that there is more and more work, that this is expanding and that more productions are being made here.

He has played a small role in ‘El internado. Las Cumbres ‘as Iván, the character from that series that he introduced him to. A tribute?

It was a little scene. ‘The boarding school’ has been a great school for me. In addition, the filming was very intense. We worked practically every day. You had to study a lot and we were submerged there learning a lot. Because we worked with actors like Luis Merlo, Carlos Leal and Natalia Millán. There were very professional people there. And having the opportunity to absorb knowledge from them has been a great gift.
