Xi Jinping calls for the West to recognize the validity of the Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines

Beijing.- Chinese President Xi Jinping called for mutual recognition of Covid-19 vaccines based on the emergency use list of the World Health Organization (WHO)according to the Xinhua news agency.

In remarks made via video link to the G-20 Leaders Summit, Xi said that China had delivered more than 1.6 billion doses of Covid vaccines to the world, and that it is collaborating with 16 nations to manufacture doses.

“China is willing to work with all parties to improve the accessibility and affordability of Covid-19 vaccines in developing countries,” Xi said.

The Chinese president reiterated his support for the World Trade Organization make an early decision on a lifting of intellectual property rights for Covid-19 vaccines, and called for firms to be encouraged to transfer technology to developing countries.

Two Chinese vaccines, one of Sinovac Biotech and another of Sinopharm, have been included in the WHO emergency use list.

Xi also called for policies to maintain the global economy and financial stability, ensuring that China will strengthen macroeconomic policy coordination and maintain policy continuity, stability and sustainability.

“The large economies should adopt responsible macroeconomic policies to avoid secondary effects in developing countries and keep the operation of the international economic and financial system stable,” he commented.

Xi reiterated that China will work to hit a peak in carbon emissions by 2030, with the goal of being carbon neutral by 2060.
