Work begins to expand the network of bike lanes in Barcelona

The City Council of Barcelona will begin this Monday the actions of a new package of interventions for expand the network of bike lanes in arteries like the avenue Diagonal and Gran Via, with the aim of reaching 2023 with 272.6 kilometers of these lanes.

The works will allow some sections of bike lanes to be lowered from the pavement to the road on these two roads, and to give continuity to the Ronda Guinardó lane, among other changes.

In a statement, the council notes that the 28 performances that will be launched between the end of the year and 2023 will allow the creation of 32.6 new kilometers of bike lanes and improve existing 11.7 kilometers.

In the Avenue Diagonal, the operators will begin tomorrow, Monday, the works to improve the bike lane, from the Plaza de Pius XII to the Esplugues de Llobregat lane, and it is expected that these will end on March 2, with a stoppage for Christmas.

In some points the current lane will be lowered from the sidewalk to the road while in others the segregated infrastructure will be created.

In the Gran Via, The cycle lane will also be lowered to the road between Pau Claris and Marina streets, while two new segregated lanes will be created on the sides.

The works will take place between November 29 and March 11, with a period of inactivity during the Christmas holidays, they have detailed.

The third intervention will take place in the Ronda Guinardó, between the streets of Vinyals and Cartagena, where two new segregated and one-way bike lanes will be built. With this action, which will take place until April 8, the current Ronda Guinardó bike path will continue, which will also go onto the road and unfold.
