Women writers, by Josep Maria Fonalleras

Has exploded a small controversy in the world of Catalan literature. In the Nit de Santa Llúcia, the winners were all men. Men only. Given this fact, there have been women who have cried out to heaven and they have said that “a clear and terrifying message” comes out and that it is a problem that must be solved.

With these arguments, in fact, they go against what they defend and that, on the other hand, is a verifiable fact: that there are (many) women who write (very) well. But in this case lThe juries meet separately, evaluate the works and vote. And they do not know what the others have voted and do not know, most of the time, if the winner is a man or a woman, because men and women present themselves with a pseudonym. What should happen? That once the winners were proclaimed, those responsible for Òmnium asked the juries for a correction so that a woman or two would win, to establish an artificial parity? Next year maybe five women will win, and the juries will not know if they are women until the escrow is opened. So what will we think, that there has been a political guideline or that in that edition the women’s works, those works, those women, were simply better?
