Woman says “there were no limits” on the rape of a girl

A woman arranged the rape and sexual abuse of a girl along with two men, telling them there were “no limits” to the abuse.

Vicki Bevan, 37, Paul Rafferty, 62 and Tony Hutton, 42, were involved in the systematic abuse of a girl under the age of 10 from 2019 to 2021. The three, all from St Helens, pleaded guilty to various sexual offenses in January 2022.

Bevan instigated conversations between the three about the child’s sexual abuse, rape and torture. One of the men asked her at one point if she had any boundaries, and she replied, “No, none at all…”.

Overwhelming images of the abuse, which included rape, were found on Ms Bevan’s phone. All three shared images of the abuse, but Ms Bevan also shared them more widely on the Kik Messenger platform.

The three shared footage of Bevan abusing the girl on their own, but the men also participated in the abuse in person.

The abuse came to light when a fourth man was arrested on suspicion of possessing indecent images of children. His phone was examined and footage of Bevan’s abuse was found.

Police also recovered a video showing Bevan sexually abusing the boy. She was arrested on October 25, 2021, Rafferty was arrested on November 3, 2021, and Hutton on November 4.

Rafferty and Hutton admitted they were the men seen in the abuse footage, but claimed Bevan was the key instigator. Ms. Bevan stated that much of the talk of what she would do with the children was fantasy and that she would never act it out. She claimed to be sorry for what she had done to the young woman.

Rafferty was jailed for 10 years and another 4 on extended leave, while Hutton was jailed for 4 years, two to serve in prison and two years on leave.

In sentencing, Judge Andrew Menary said the scale of depravity in the case “is unbelievable.” He added that the victim likely suffered “severe psychological damage” as a result of what had been done to her.

All of the defendants received a restraining order to prevent them from having contact with the victim. In addition, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order was placed on all three.

This prevents them from having any type of unsupervised contact with a child. They also cannot use a computer or access the Internet without reporting it to the police.

Senior Crown Prosecutor Pauline Newrick, Specialist Prosecutor for the CPS Mersey-Cheshire Rape and Serious Sexual Offenses (RASSO) unit, said: “This is one of the worst cases I have been involved with, in my time in the Crown Prosecution Service. There are certain cases in which it is difficult to get out of your waking thoughts.

“This is a woman who has gone out of her way to satisfy her own sexual needs and those of the men she communicates with online by abusing a girl. She has helped men rape and sexually abuse this girl and has also sexually abused her for her own personal pleasure.

“Had she not been caught, she would no doubt have continued to arrange for this young woman and potentially others to be abused by her and the men in the most horrendous manner. She has not limited herself to actual abuse: she has encouraged others to participate. What woman could do that to a child?

Ms Newrick added: “An innocent child is at the center of this case – a child who was dragged into the depraved and seedy world of these three people who might have tried to protect her.

“That girl is now receiving the care and support she has a right to expect. We hope that this successful conclusion to this case will help her on the long journey that lies ahead of her.”
