Vancouver Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Steve Addison said the 27-year-old woman is alleged to have entered a Tim Hortons near Abbott and Pender streets on Oct. 20, 2021, and thrown a cup of coffee on an employee for no reason.

“Vancouver police believe the incident was unprovoked,” Addison said.

“We understand how traumatizing it is when people become victims of random and unprovoked attacks. When these incidents happen, we do everything we can to fully investigate, gather evidence, and identify the people responsible.”

Addison said that evidence collected during the investigation, including tips from the public, lead them to identify a suspect – Megan Russell – on March 4.

Russell is charged with assault with a weapon.
