Witness says he took Joseph Yaremko to the Saskatoon condo building where the alleged sexual assault took place – Saskatoon | The Canadian News

The Crown witness who said she brought Joseph Yaremko to her condo building in Saskatoon testified that she was just trying to help a friendly stranger.

Trisha Hall lived in the same Stonebridge compound where an alleged sexual assault took place, for which Yaremko has been charged.

Hall told the court that he spent most of the day with the man from Warman, Sask., After he entered the Maduro Coffee & Tea office near 45 Street West in the northern part of the city.

The court saw security video footage of a man entering the business, where Hall was working at the time, on the morning of June 3, 2019.

Hall testified that he left his workplace before 11 a.m. to help Yaremko.

She said that when she first entered the business, she asked to use the phone.

Hall said that after talking to him for several minutes, she discovered that he was a friendly stranger and someone she felt she had known for a long time.

He noted that he did not tell any of his colleagues that he had left his position and that Yaremko had said that he was looking to book a hotel for some employees for his roofing business.

Hall said he did not know the name of the hotel and that she offered suggestions, but realized shortly after that she had to meet with her business partner.

He also said that he seemed exhausted, so he decided to take him home in the 100 block of Wellman Crescent so that he could access the Internet.

Hall noted that they stayed at his home from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., where she fed him and he made plans to meet with his business partner.

She agreed to take him so Yaremko could meet her partner.

After that meeting, Hall said Yaremko asked him to drive him to various residences and businesses.

During those stops, she said that he would be out of her sight for minutes at a time.

She noticed that after one of the stops, her hand was bleeding and contained shards of glass.

Hall said he was concerned at this point for his safety and for the man in his vehicle.

She said they returned home around 6 p.m., where they were joined by Hall’s roommate, Jocelyn Lachapelle.

Hall and Lachapelle noted that Yaremko began to speak more sexually at this time and became more aggressive with seeking to sleep with the partner.

Both Hall and Lachapelle said they did not want to sleep with him.

However, Lachapelle said that Hall engaged with her “aggressive flirting,” but she did not involve Yaremko when she tried to include her in the conversation.

It became so uncomfortable that Lachapelle texted one of Hall’s co-workers that they didn’t feel safe and called the police.

Hall, who said she is also chair of the building’s condo board, said that at one point, she felt she had been given time, trips to where he wanted to go, and even an old cell phone that she couldn’t do enough for him. and she just wanted him to leave her at home.

During questioning, the defense asked why Hall was taking so much time out of his work day to help a stranger and not tell his co-workers where he was going.

Yaremko’s lawyer also asked Hall that even though she saw concerns as they drove to different places, she never felt the need to go and leave him.

She said she hoped that helping him would leave her alone and that they could get on with their lives and that she felt she was doing something nice for a stranger and that he had left a duffel bag at her house.

The defense also asked Hall if he had met Yaremko before, bought him drugs, and if he had been to his home or workplace before.

Hall answered no to all questions.

The defense mentioned that she suggested that Yaremko stay the night and that she and her roommate share a room.

On the stand, Hall disputed this, but the defense stopped an interview Hall had with a Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) officer on July 4, 2019, where she said she asked if she wanted to stay the night, but noted that it did not. seriously and hoped it would go away.

The court also heard both attorneys agree that security footage from the apartment building showed Joseph Yaremko walking through the building on June 3.

Once police arrived, Lachapelle said he left the building to speak with officers.

Hall and Yaremko left shortly after and Yaremko can be seen walking quickly and finally running down a different hallway as Hall left through the front door.

According to Hall and Lachapelle’s testimony, this would have occurred minutes before Yaremko is said to have entered the alleged victim’s unit.

The victim, a woman who was 21 years old at the time of the incident and who cannot be identified due to a publication ban, took the stand on Monday.

On Wednesday, the court also heard testimony from several SPS officers who said Yaremko had an arrest warrant from Craik RCMP when he was arrested on these charges.

The Crown has a few more witnesses ready to take the stand Thursday, while the defense will begin calling their witnesses later that day.

Judge Naheed Bardai also issued an order for one of the defense witnesses who has not responded to a request to appear at this trial.
