With a cacerolazo, the ENAH breaks the stillness of the morning

With a band playing “El Sinaloense” in the background and demonstrators banging their saucepans, the General Assembly of the ENAH and supporters of the culture sector arrived this morning at the “mañanera” of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

With the slogan Until dignity becomes a habit!, the protesters raised their banners to demand more budget and attention for the National School of Anthropology and History (ENAH), in addition to other demands. “Today we went to the morning conference at the National Palace, to deliver the series of demands that as a community of the ENAH we have demanded from different authorities in the cultural sector.”

The document was immediately read, which would later be delivered to the Office of the Presidency in the hands of Gabriel Mejía Pérez, liaison and representative.

Among the most important points are: A proposal for a work route to solve the historical demands of the ENAH, “we request the immediate installation of inter-institutional negotiation tables, which are made up of authorities with decision-making capacity from the Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Culture (SC), Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), Commission of Culture and Cinematography of the Chamber of Deputies, the National Institute of Anthropology and History and the National School of Anthropology and History”.

That these tables are not headed by the director general of the INAH, Diego Prieto, because they consider that “their promises, demagoguery and lies have been enough to show us their lack of political will and institutional incompetence.”

They also announced that they will continue with their path of struggle and action plans to make this “old problem” visible, and stated that they have a dossier of supporting documents of everything asserted, for which they requested a response within a period not exceeding 14 business days ( January 31, 2022), otherwise, and respecting the agreement of their last General Assembly, they will call a strike as a last resort to demand the resolution of their demands.
