A Winnipeg man is running 48 hours straight to support Siloam Mission.

Junel Malapad has been doing this race on Boxing Day for seven years.

“I wanted to run, rather than spend money on Boxing Day,” Malapad told Global News.

After his first run, which lasted 15 hours and covered 100 kilometers, he learned of a person who passed away on a cold night while living on the streets of Winnipeg.

It was then that he decided to raise money for the Siloam Mission while completing a 48 hour run. Siloam is a group that supports the homeless.

“The thing is, I have a lot of friends and they support me here. They are also running. It means a lot to me that everyone helps with my cause, ”said Malapad.

As of Sunday night, Malapad raised more than $ 9,000 toward its goal of $ 20,000. The race will be completed at 11am on Tuesday.
