Windsor Health Unit Issues Opioid Alert After 14 Overdoses

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit issued an opioid alert after health officials recorded more than a dozen overdoses in the past week.

Between November 10 and 16, health officials reported 14 opioid overdoses. Thirteen of them were reported to Windsor Regional Hospital, and 12 involved fentanyl.

Cases were reported primarily in the N9A and N9B zip codes and in Leamington.

Health officials, police and paramedics are monitoring the situation and urging the public to be vigilant.

If residents see someone they think is overdosing, they should call 911 and stay with the person. Symptoms of an overdose may include slow or shallow breathing, clammy skin, trouble walking or speaking, and slow heartbeats.
