Will Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy eat Windsor-style pizza?

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy has eaten and assessed pizza far and wide for his popular YouTube series One Bite Pizza Reviews — but he’s never done so in Windsor.

That’s why filmmaker George Kalivas — the man behind the local pizza documentary The Pizza City You’ve Never Heard Of — is hoping Portnoy gives Windsor-style pizza a chance.

“He cannot leave Ontario without eating Windsor pizza,” Kalivas declared on Twitter.

Portnoy is in the Toronto area this week to watch the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox MLB series — and he’s already done two Toronto pizza place reviews, as of Tuesday.

Kalivas believes it’s the perfect opportunity for Portnoy to try out pizza from Windsor — which Kalivas considers the true “pizza capital of Canada.”

According to Kalivas, when he reached out to Barstool Sports about the idea, he was told that it would only happen “if there’s enough noise.”

Therefore, Kalivas is asking Windsor pizza fans to tag and urge Portnoy on Twitter (@stoolpresidente) to give his “One Bite” review of pizza with the Windsor traditions: shredded pepperoni, canned mushrooms, Galati cheese, and cornmeal.

“You won’t regret it,” Kalivas promised Portnoy in a call-out video.

However, Portnoy doesn’t necessarily have to make the four-hour drive from Toronto to Windsor to sample Windsor-style pie: Ambassador Pizza Co.the Toronto pizza business that specializes in the Windsor style, has a standing invitation to Portnoy.

Last year, Kalivas released his film tribute to Windsor pizza, The Pizza City You’ve Never Heard Of, tracing the history of the region’s patented pizza style and featuring interviews with local pizza perfectionists.

The Ambassador Pizza Co. also makes an appearance in the documentary.

The documentary has been shown locally and at a number of film festivals across North America. Kalivas hopes to make it available for stream viewing this summer.
