What’s Open, What’s Closed on Thanksgiving in Hamilton, Burlington, and the Niagara Region – Hamilton | The Canadian News

The long Thanksgiving weekend is upon us and that means not everything will be open on Monday.

Ontario is still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and several Hamilton and Niagara family / group attractions that will be open require proof of vaccination, face coverings and physical distance rules.

Canada Post locations will be closed and mail pickup and delivery will be canceled for Monday.

If you’re hoping to run a few errands or just get out and do something, here’s a list of what’s open and closed in Hamilton, Burlington, and the Niagara region on October 11.

Hamilton

Government offices such as city hall, banks, municipal offices, facilities and most businesses will be closed on Monday.

Green Trash, Trash and Recycle: There is no pickup on Monday. The pick-up will be one day later if it falls during or after the holidays. The city says all materials must be on the sidewalk by 7 a.m.

HSR Bus: Transit will operate on a Sunday / holiday schedule on Monday. Many routes will operate with reduced frequencies while some routes will not operate at all. Face coverings are required on the HSR.

ATS-DARTS: The service will operate with holiday service hours on Thanksgiving. Subscription trips on DARTS, with the exception of dialysis, are canceled for Monday. ATS customer service will also be closed on Monday.

Recycling centers: Closed Monday.

Administrative office: Closed Monday.

Recreation centers: All recreation centers and stadiums will be closed on Monday.

Hamilton Civic Museums: Closed Monday.

Tourism Hamilton Visitor Information Center: Closed Monday.

Hamilton Public Library: Closed Sundays and Mondays.

Social services: All Ontario Works offices, Professional Development Centers, Special Supports and the Office of Housing Services will be closed on Monday.

Senior centers: Closed Monday.

Sands: Closed to public programming on Mondays.

Animal services: Closed Sundays and Mondays.

Burlington

Government offices such as city hall, banks, municipal offices, facilities and most businesses will be closed on Monday.

Administrative services, including the Office of Highway and Park Maintenance, will be closed on Monday, although emergency services for maintenance will continue to be provided.

Roads, parks and forestry and animal shelter and control will be closed on Monday, but emergency services will be provided.

Halton court services will be closed on Thanksgiving, as will the provincial crime court.

Free street parking is available in the city center, in municipal lots, and in the parking lot. Waterfront parking lots (east and west) do not offer free parking on statutory holidays.

Burlington Transit will operate a holiday service schedule on Monday, while the service’s administrative offices, including the downtown transit terminal and the Handi-Van dispatch, will be closed. Schedules and specialized reservations are available at burlingtontransit.ca

The Animal Shelter on Industrial Street remains closed to the public due to COVID-19.

Niagara Region

Government offices such as city hall, banks, municipal offices, facilities and most businesses will be closed on Monday.

Community centers, all senior centers and arenas will be closed on Thanksgiving, including the Enterprise Center, FirstOntario Performing Arts Center, and Meridian Center.

The administration offices of the Parks, Recreation and Culture Services are closed.

The St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Center will be open all weekend, as well as Thanksgiving Monday. There are intermittent closures for cleaning. Masks and exams are required.

The Lakeside Park Carousel will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. M. At 8 p. After Thanksgiving, hours will be reduced to weekends only from 11 a.m. M. At 6 p. M. Until October 14.

The Garden City Golf Course will be open for only reservations. The city-run golf course will be open from 7 a.m. to dusk throughout the weekend, including Monday. However, there are improved health and safety processes.

Port Weller Community Center and Russell Avenue Community Center are closed.

Buses in Niagara Falls and St. Catharines will offer reduced holiday hours and will run on Sundays.

Trash and recycling pickup times are not affected by the holidays.

Shopping

Canada Post: The points of sale are closed on October 11. There will be no pickup or delivery of mail on the Civic Holiday.

Grocery stores: Major grocery stores like Fortinos, Metro, Fresh Co. and No Frills will be closed on October 11 in Hamilton, St. Catharines, Burlington and Niagara Falls.

Movie theaters: Most major movie venues will be open all day on Monday. The exception is some drive-ins like Starlite Drive-In, which is closed on Mondays.

Shoppers Drug Mart: Many locations will be open on October 11, but not all. The hours can be seen on the Shoppers Store Locator Map.

Malls: All major malls in Hamilton, Burlington, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls will be closed.

  • The Center on Barton: Most stores will be closed.
  • The Pen Center: closed
  • Fairview Mall: closed
  • Mapleview Center: closed
  • Burlington Center: closed
  • CF Toronto Eaton Center: Open 10 a.m. M. A 7 p. M.
  • Toronto Premium Outlets in Halton Hills: Open 9:30 a.m. M. A 7 p. M.
  • Pacific Mall in Toronto: Open 11 a.m. M. A 7 p. M.
  • Niagara Falls Outlet Collection: Open 11am to 6pm M. A 7 p. M.
  • Square One Mall in Mississauga: Open 11 a.m. M. At 6 p. M.
  • Vaughan Mills in Vaughan: Open 10 am-6pm M. At 8 p. M.

Walmart: Most of the Walmart in the GTHA will be closed, but the Niagara Falls Supercenter on Oakwood Drive will be open on October 11 between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.

Alcohol

The Beer Store: Stores will be closed.

LCBO: Stores will be closed.

Touristic destinations

  • Toronto tourist destinations such as the Art Gallery of Ontario, CN Tower, Hockey Hall of Fame, Ontario Place, Ontario Science Center and Ripley’s Aquarium are open with limited capacity and with COVID security measures -19.
  • Toronto Zoo – Outdoor and indoor areas are open with COVID measurements. Reservations are required and can be reserved online. Tickets are not sold on the site.
  • The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Mount Hope will be closed on Thanksgiving.
  • Most of the Niagara Falls attractions will be open on Holiday Monday, including the Whirlpool Aero Car, Journey Behind the Falls, the Botanical Gardens, the Butterfly Conservatory, and all parks and nature centers and gardens. However, some heritage sites like McKenzie Printery and McFarland House will be closed. Additionally, some dining venues such as Whirlpool Restaurant and Legends On The Niagara will be closed.
