The new Olmec refinery

Consider the construction of 56 storage tanks, 24 spheres and 17 processing plantsincluding workshops, control rooms and administrative and service buildings.

By blocks, the refinery will operate as follows: it will have the capacity to receive up to 340,000 barrels per day of 22-degree heavy crude oil according to its density and amount of sulfur classified by the American Petroleum Institute (API), which it will send to a first combined distillation plant; From there, the product will be sent to a delayed coking plant, a gas oil hydro-treatment plant, a diesel hydro-treatment plant and a naphtha hydro-treatment plant, all through the pipeline system inside the facilities.

Subsequently, the different plants will continue with the processes by sending the liquid fuels to a fluidized catalytic disintegration plant and later they will go to the gas treatment and recovery plant, to the alkylation plant, to the butane isomerizer, to a treatment plant for phenolic bitter waters and amine regeneration with CO2.

Finally, a pentane and hexane isomerizer will be reached, one more naphtha reformer, the regeneration of amines without CO2, the bitter waters, the sulfur will be recovered again and finally 110,000 barrels of pure gasoline will arrive daily, according to the permit. of refining that was granted to Pemex.

Among the large teams that have arrived at the site, eight stand out from 12 columns of 85 meters long built by the Turkish company Grupo Cimtas, which will support delicate infrastructure. Similarly, two vessels arrived with 15,000 tons of equipment that included six modules for chemical plants and 41 pieces of equipment for the process area, from China and Korea and that are installed in the construction packages that were awarded to the Samsung company.

When does the Dos Bocas refinery start operating?

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador assured that the refinery will be inaugurated next July and will have cost 9,000 million dollars that do not come from credits but from the public budget that has been adjusted thanks to austerity policies that allow resources to be allocated to works like this one, which It will provide 20% of the fuel consumed in the country starting next year.

30,000 workers participate in this strategic project for the present administration, who will move to the construction of 10 industrial parks in the Isthmus of Tehuantepecwhich will contribute to maintaining the generation of employment in the region, assured the president in his last tour of the area.

As for the works reported by the government, the Secretary of Energy published this week that half of the work has progressed on Site 1 for the sand deposit and it will be ready in the coming weeks. In Property 2, 6.7 million cubic meters have been deposited on the platform that will make up the esplanade. Thus, the platform is 97% complete and the boarding and trimming have already been completed.

In the massive improvement of the soil, progress has been made by 23% and work is being done on 30 hectares, equivalent to 300,000 square meters. Thus, as of March 15, 926,472 man-hours have been reached without accidents. To date, 4,124 direct jobs have been generated at the construction site.
