Weekend car rally at Wasaga Beach to attract a greater police presence – Barrie | The Canadian News

This weekend a large car rally will be held in Wasaga Beach, Ontario, resulting in an increased police presence.

City officials say the rally, which is not authorized, has the potential to result in illegal vehicles on local roads and dangerous driving.

“The OPP has consulted with city officials about this meeting and they have taken the initiative to ensure public safety,” Wasaga Beach Mayor Nina Bifolchi said in a statement.

OPP said dangerous driving on local roads will not be tolerated and officials will enforce Ontario’s new stunt driving rules.

Officials say the city and police do not have the authority to prohibit people from visiting and cannot legally turn people away at Wasaga Beach entry points.

The Spruce Street lot and its Playland lot, both located in Area 1 of the beach, will be closed.

The municipal picnic area lot, accessible from Fifth Street, will be open to residents with parking passes. Ontario Parks has also made its Beach Area 4 lot, at the end of 24th Street, available to residents with parking passes.

All other Ontario Park lots will be open for paid and exhibition parking, as well as Ontario Parks pass holders.
