A special meteorological declaration, calling for rain, has been issued for two freeway crossings in the interior of BC.

According to Environment Canada, a third atmospheric river that is about to drench southern sections of the province may affect vulnerable landscapes and local infrastructure throughout Tuesday.

The frontal system is expected to produce 40-50mm of rain along Coquihalla, from Hope to the top of the road, while 30-70mm is expected between Eagle Pass and Rogers Pass on the Trans-Canada Highway. .

The national weather agency is also calling for strong winds from the southwest.

“The last of the three systems that will affect the coast is giving rain to the area, which will last until tonight,” Environment Canada said Tuesday.

“The precipitation will particularly affect the west and uphill sections of the highways.”

Areas north of the Coquihalla Summit are expected to receive lower amounts of rainfall.

For the Trans-Canada Highway, it is possible to snow from Rogers Pass to Kootenay Park. Rogers Pass has an elevation of 1,330 meters.

There is also a fog advisory for the East Columbia region.

“Snow levels will rise to about 2,000 meters tonight,” Environment Canada said.

Along with rain advisories, snowfall advisories are in effect for the Yellowhead Highway, from Tête Jaune Cache to the Alberta border, where 10-15 cm is expected.
