Weather cocktail: the winter storm will weaken on Friday

The weather cocktail that left a mattress of nearly 15 centimeters of snow should decrease in intensity in southern Quebec, while in the eastern sectors of the province the winter storm will persist on Friday.

In Montreal and the St. Lawrence Valley, light snow is expected ending at midday with occasional blowing snow. The sky will be clear in the afternoon, but it will be much colder.

In Quebec, Saguenay and the surrounding area, Environment Canada forecasts some accumulations of snow, between 2 and 4 centimeters on the ground, but the weather will be windy with gusts of 70 km/h and lower temperatures.

In Estrie and Beauce, the freezing rain was to leave a carpet of nearly 5 centimeters on the ground overnight, before turning into light snow in the afternoon, when the mercury reached -11 degrees.

In eastern areas, the winter storm warning is still in effect, with 15 to 30 centimeters of snow expected through Friday morning when visibility will be reduced due to blowing snow.

Temperatures, which fell overnight throughout Quebec, should rise slightly to reach seasonal norms during the weekend, which promises to be snowy, but with fewer accumulations.
