The agreement was reached at 4:30 am, 30 minutes before the union was scheduled to end a truce with management and resume its unlimited strike.

Union spokesman Michel Gratton said acceptance of the deal would be recommended to members, who are expected to vote on the deal in the next seven to eight days.

Gratton did not provide details of the deal, saying they must first be shared with members.

Contract negotiations had focused on wages, workplace safety and overtime.

SAQ’s management had warned of serious repercussions on its ability to supply outlets and commercial customers if the strike continued.
