Ottawa is doing this by withdrawing from Russia and Belarus the status of “most favored nations”, a status which is reserved for countries with which Canada maintains privileged economic relations.

In addition, Canada announced the shipment of 4,500 M-72 type grenade launchers as well as up to 7,500 fragmentation grenades, or hand grenades, to Ukraine. These weapons are drawn from the stocks of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Defense Minister Anita Anand also announced $1 million in aid to purchase satellite imagery.

“This will allow the Ukrainian army to strengthen its ability to monitor the movements of Russian armed forces in and around their territory,” she said.
