Walmart Chile and suppliers could reach conciliation

A little over a year after the Association of Suppliers Industry (AGIP) in Chile filed a lawsuit with the Court for the Defense of Free Competition against the supermarket Walmart, recently the protagonists of this process marked a milestone that could point to to a denouement.

This, because a first formal meeting was held between the parties, an appointment that aimed to see the possibility of reaching an agreement in the context of the judicial action that the union filed in October of last year, in which both made known your willingness to settle.

According to the minutes of the Court, at the hearing appeared, on behalf of AGIP, the lawyers Mónica van der Schraft and Mario Ybar Abad, while for Walmart Chile there were Carla Bordoli and Cristián Doren.

At the meeting, Minister Enrique Vergara asked the representatives of the association and the supermarket if there was a possibility of conciliating. “The parties indicated that they have a willingness to conciliate,” says the letter. Thus, the Court suspended the case until January 25 of next year and called a new conciliation hearing for January 27, 2022.

It should be remembered that the union sued the supermarket owner in October of last year, accusing her of abuse of a dominant position, and asking to fine her more than $ 9,000 million (10 million dollars).

“Walmart has abused its dominant position in the supermarket supply market, by forcing its suppliers to contract certain services and also setting arbitrary values,” says the lawsuit.
