Wall Street opens higher ahead of Jerome Powell’s appearance


The New York Stock Exchange opened slightly higher on Thursday ahead of a new congressional hearing from the chairman of the US Federal Reserve (Fed), Jerome Powell.

Within minutes of opening, the index dow jones advanced 0.33%, the nasdaq rose 0.86% and the S&P 500 0.51 percent.

On Wednesday, after the intervention of the head of the Fed before a Senate committee, the dow jones it fell 0.15%, to 30,483.13 points; the Nasdaq index, with a strong technological coloration, lost 0.15%, to 11,053,017 units; and the expanded S&P 500 index 0.13%, to 3,759.89 points.
