Walkabout for Carles Puigdemont, the ex-president is free to leave Sardinia

Carles Puigdemont celebrated his release by taking a walkabout this Saturday in Alghero, this Italian town of Catalan culture and tradition in northern Sardinia.

The ex-Catalan president was arrested Thursday evening on his arrival at the airport in the city where he came to participate in a cultural festival.

Carles Puigdemont, MEP, ex-president of Catalonia: “Alghero has very, very deep roots in Catalan culture and the Catalan language. So for me this is a very, very important opportunity to be here – free . I’m used to being chased by Spain but in the end it’s always the same: I’m free. I will continue to fight.

Carles Puigdemont is claimed by the Spanish justice which accuses him of “sedition” for having organized in 2017 an illegal referendum on the autonomy of Catalonia.

The MEP will have to appear on October 4 for a hearing on his possible extradition.
