Agents of the National Policein a joint operation with the Mossos, have dismantled a criminal group that allegedly distributed counterfeit €20 and €50 bills over the Internet. Six people have been arrested, among whom are the main distributors and dealers. Tickets were sold through a well-known internet shopping platform, subsequently they were sent by parcel to the entire national territory together with the corresponding holographic bands that the buyer himself had to stick to the ticket. Counterfeits worth €13,900 have been seized, numerous holographic bands and different tools to manipulate banknotes.
The joint investigations began in mid-June 2021 when a large number of counterfeit €20 and €50 banknotes were detected in circulation with common counterfeit elements.

On an internet platform
The agents were able to verify that the tickets were sold through a well-known platform for buying items online and had very specific characteristics, since the fakes were not sent complete but, once the payment was made, the tickets and their corresponding holograms They were sent through parcel companies. The buyers themselves had to adhere the holograms to the banknotes and apply different products to them so that they had a real appearance.
The main distributor resided in the town of Chiclana de la Frontera (Cadiz) Y one of its biggest buyers was located in Roda de Berà (Tarragona). The latter, once he received the counterfeit bills, distributed them to third parties -placers- who finally carried out purchases in shops in Barcelona and Tarragona using counterfeits.

Once all the information had been verified, the investigators seized a postal shipment containing €1,750 in counterfeit €20 and €50 bills addressed to buyers based in Mieres (Asturias), who were arrested and brought to justice.
A search was made at the address of one of the distributors, in Roda de Berà, in which €12,150 was intervened falses on 20 and 50 euro bills, numerous holographic bands and different tools for handling the bills. Finally, members of the National Police and Mossos d’Esquadra arrested the main distributor in Chiclana de la Frontera for the crime of acquiring and distributing counterfeit bills.
