Verify that the Ontario Business App can scan vaccine certificates from all provinces and territories | The Canadian News

An Ontario government MPP says the Verify Ontario app can now read COVID-19 vaccine certificates from all provinces and territories in Canada.

Kaleed Rasheed, Associate Minister for Digital Government, posted the update Monday morning.

Rasheed said that the app, used by companies to read SMART Health QR codes to verify proof of complete vaccination in order to enter facilities that require it, can now scan certificates from outside the province that use the same technology. .

The news comes when the government announced on Friday that starting in the new year, it would remove the unscannable version of the vaccine certificate in favor of the new, enhanced, scannable QR code.

The story continues below the ad.

Starting January 4, QR codes will be the only acceptable way to provide proof of vaccination in the province.

The government said Ontario residents should have a digital screenshot of the QR code version on their phones as proof of vaccination or carry a hard copy on paper.

Original vaccination receipts, which have been susceptible to fraud, will no longer be accepted.

The government is also extending the use of the vaccination test system beyond January 17, which is when the province previously indicated that the measure would begin to be lifted in certain settings.
