Veracruz – SandFest 2021: Sand castles

First week of December and the off road activity does not stop in Mexico. Different routes and enthusiast clubs confirm it but it is the National Off Road Circuit the one that sets the standard for the annual calendar. Almost to close the events of this 2021, the Bosco’s Camp team organized an exploration on the beach, surrounded by the sun, sea and huge sand dunes. Thanks to the popularity of this route, it was divided into three weekends and just over 45 participating vehicles.

To the gulf

It was last December 4 when the second of the three days was held in Veracruz. Participants from different states of the Mexican Republic such as Michoacán, Puebla, Mexico City, State of Mexico, Guadalajara, among others. The meeting point was the Camino Real de Boca del Río hotel, venue of the event and where both staff and crews spent the night before to start very early on Saturday.

Along with the breakfast that the participants took, the members of the organizing group carried out the obligatory technical review of all the vehicles because, as on other occasions, the remoteness in which the tests would be carried out required minimizing the risk of any failure.

They were in 15 vehicles of the enthusiasts plus the 4 occupied by the team of Bosco’s Camp, between leader, sweeper, intermediate and support. At 8 o’clock in the morning the caravan left for the Malecón of the Port of Veracruz to then take the road and continue towards Poza Rica to continue towards the deviation of Las Dunas, which are located in the municipality of Úrsulo Galván and very close to Chachalacas Beach.

It was precisely in the area known as Veracruz desert where vehicles such as Jeep TJ, JK, JL, JT Pick Up, the latter with the “Desert Rated” certification and special equipment such as the Fox Racing Performance suspension with an extra altitude of 2.5 ”and external ByPass, circulated just over 50 kilometers between pavement and sand to complete the second day.

Sand and a lot of humidity

The challenges presented on the day were 38 degrees Celsius weather, limited water reserves and the confidence of being guided by the GPS navigation system of the leading vehicle driven by Juan Bosco, which was the only tool that gave position to the participants in the middle of sand dunes.

Among the exercises were the ascent and descent of slopes with 45 degrees of incline, the passage through sand traps, jumps in sudden changes in level as well as the river crossing. In some cases it was necessary to rescue the participants trapped in the sandbanks and for this the Jeep JL of support that had a winch with which it was enough to tow the stuck units.

Playtime

After completing each of the exercises, the participants were able to practice different recreational activities such as sandboarding or swimming in the sea to finish with a bonfire and enjoy the night.
