Veracruz Prosecutor’s Office releases detainee for the murder of two journalists; recognize error by homonymy

The Attorney General of Veracruz He acknowledged that his elements detained an innocent person, and whom he presented this afternoon as a participant in the qualified homicide of journalists Yesenia Mollinedo and Johana García, which occurred on May 9 in that state.

It should be noted that this afternoon in a joint statement, the Veracruz Prosecutor’s Office and the Federal Security Secretariat through the National Anti-Kidnapping Commission (know) reported the arrest of Jesús “N”, whom they identified with the alias “The Mara”, for his probable participation in the double crime.

However, on Tuesday night, the Veracruz Prosecutor’s Officestated: “the person detained by elements of Conase as likely responsible for the crime of intentional homicide against the director of the portal El Veraz, Yessenia Mollinedo Falconi, and the reporter Sheila Johana García Olivera, upon validating her identity by this prosecution and determining that it was a homonym, he was released immediately to avoid violating his rights.”

“The coordinated search operation with federal and state authorities continues intensely to find those presumed responsible for these unfortunate crimes, ratifying that there will be no impunity for those who committed them,” he said.

The 20-year-old man, mistakenly detained by the Prosecutor’s Office, is a state student and all the time told the authorities that he was not the person they were looking for.

So far, the federal government, which validated the information released this afternoon, has not commented on this error of the Veracruz Attorney General’s Office.

On May 9, Yesenia Mollinedo and Johana García, director of the news agency The Truthful and reporter, respectively, were killed -when they were inside a car- by two men who were riding a motorcycle.
