Vending machines no longer only for snacks and drinks, but also for false eyelashes | The Canadian News

Through her own experience, entrepreneur and businesswoman Christina Vlahos noticed the shortage of false eyelashes when she went to a store and the difficulty in finding the right pair.

Vlahos has been doing makeup since she was 12 years old and always knew she wanted to start her own beauty-related business, she just didn’t know exactly what it would be.

So a lightbulb went off in his head.

“I was telling my husband that I was like, man, there should be a vending machine for tabs,” Vlahos said.

After a quick Google search, he realized that it had never been done before and decided to start the process.

Friends and others he told about the new business venture were skeptical of the idea and whether he would actually go through with it.

“I’m always the kind of person that when I put my mind to it, I’ll do it,” Vlahos said.

Through her passion for beauty and strong work ethic, designs were put together, wholesalers were contacted, and lashes were created.

Lashes by Sophia, named after her daughter, came to life in just eight months.

There are currently 15 different styles of mink lashes priced at $10 a pair and four styles of luxurious human hair lashes priced at $15 a pair.

“I wanted something for everyone big dramatic black lashes or very thin or something in between…there is something for everyone,” said Vlahos.

The luxurious lash line was inspired by the most important women in her life: her daughter Sophia, her niece Bree, her niece Brooklyn and her husband’s daughter Teshanna.

Located in Midtown Common Mall in Saskatoon, the vending machine holds more than 1,000 pairs of false lashes at a time along with gift packs and lash glue.

Vlahos said he almost didn’t get approval to put up a store in the mall, but he convinced them otherwise.

“If you just come here, get your lashes right now and you have contactless convenience without going to a store, so it’s helpful for everyone,” Vlahos said.

In the near future, Lashes by Sophia is already expected to expand west to Regina and many different locations in Alberta and British Columbia.

The expansion will then continue eastward, bringing affordable and convenient tabs to many across the country.
