Various events planned for Trans Awareness Week

A series of local in-person and online events have been planned to celebrate Trans Awareness Week 2021.

“This is a week in which trans people and our allies raise awareness about our community by educating the public about who we are by sharing our stories and experiences,” Trans Wellness Ontario said Monday in a press release. “In addition to calling for an end to prejudice, discrimination and systemic violence that affect trans, non-binary and sex / gender diverse communities.”

Trans Wellness Ontario is hosting or partnering with other organizations for various events this week.

On Monday, the Trans Pride flags were flown at City Hall and at the University of Windsor.

There will be a Zoom event on Tuesday called Violence and Resilience: Community Workshop. Works from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Another Zoom meeting, called Harm Reduction and Activism of Two Spirits, Trans and Non-Binary, will take place on Thursday from 10 am to 11:30 am. This event is held in association with the University of Windsor.

On Friday from 6:30 pm to 8 pm a vigil service will be held to commemorate the day of commemoration of trans people and raising the flag at the Anglican Church of St. Paul in Essex.

The week of events culminates on November 20 with Trans Day of Remembrance and Resilience. The day is celebrated annually to publicly honor trans people who died in targeted acts of violence, while also celebrating trans lives, resilience, and joy.

To mark the day, there will be a gathering at Lanspeary Park from 1 to 3 pm Partners for this event include Run for Rocky Legacy Project and Windsor-Essex Pride Fest.
