The teenage boy was walking in Pacific Center Mall just before noon on March 8 when a man approached him from behind and “leg-swept” him causing him to fall to the ground.

The man then fled, but was followed by mall security. The teen was not seriously injured.

Vancouver police officers were called and arrested the suspects.

Faisal Abubaker, 25, has been charged with assault. He has been released from custody until his next court appearance.

Police said the assault was “seemingly random.” Investigators are still gathering evidence despite having a suspect.

“We are particularly interested in speaking to people who saw the suspect immediately before or after the alleged assault, or overheard any interaction the suspect had with the victim or other people,” said Const. Tania Visiontin.

Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 604-717-2541.
