Talk about coming back with a big bang.
The Vancouver Folk Music Festival’s 2022 edition is one of its most star-studded ever. From Texas legends Asleep At the Wheel and Alejandro Escovedo, to bluesman Taj Mahal and indie rockers the New Pornographers, there is going to be a big noise echoing across the beautiful setting at Jericho Beach Park.
Perhaps the biggest name appearing at this summer’s celebration is former Vancouver resident allison russell.
The former member of Po’ Girl and vocalist with Birds of Chicago and the folk supergroup Our Native Daughters exploded across genres with her debut solo album, Outside Child. A multiple Grammy, Juno and Canadian Folk Music award nominee, as well as a Polaris Music Prize long lister she blends blues, soul, pop and passion into some of the freshest folk music going today. Songs such as the hit single Nightflyer have established her as a leading voice of the Americana movement.
