US Senate Confirms Jerome Powell for a Second Term as Fed Chairman

The US Senate confirmed Jerome Powell on Thursday for a second term as head of the Federal Reserve (Fed, central bank), in full monetary tightening to combat persistent inflation in the United States.

Unsurprisingly, the Senate approved Powell’s continuance by a vote of 80 to 19. In recent days, he had confirmed Lael Brainard as vice president of the body and Lisa Cook and Philip Jefferson as governors.
