The Centrale des syndicats du Québec union asked the provincial government on Wednesday to “intervene rapidly” to support workers at SOS violence conjugale, after Quebecor Media reported allegations of psychological violence and intimidation at the organization.

“We wrote, on Oct. 12, to Justice Minister Simon Jolin-Barrette and Minister for the Status of Women Isabelle Charest, to call for help,” CSQ vice-president Line Camerlain said in a statement. “We learned today that they simply offered the management of SOS violence conjugate their help for mediation, which was refused. They then closed the file and ignored the call to help these women in danger.”

The CSQ said its members working at the organization had a “very difficult, even unhealthy” workplace climate, and there were “many allegations of bullying, of repression.”

Camerlain said Quebec should not just propose mediation but send someone to deal with the issue.

SOS conjugal violence offers a hotline to help victims of conjugal violence, as well as tools to raise awareness. It did not immediately respond to an interview request.
