BC Ferries travelers connecting Greater Victoria and Greater Vancouver had to deal with cancellations and delays on Sunday.
BC Ferries had already warned travelers on Thursday (June 16) that crew shortages would lead to cancellations on Sundays on the route between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay, specifically the 4pm and 8pm sailings out of Tsawwassen and the 6 pm and 10 pm trips.
But Sunday itself also had unexpected events. Shortly after 6 pm, BC Ferries announced the cancellation of the 7 pm Swartz Bay departure and the 9 pm Tsawwassen departure, citing crew shortages.

A medical emergency also affected a ship leaving Swartz Bay for Tsawwassen in the early afternoon. At 1:52 pm, BC Ferries announced on Twitter that the Spirit of British Columbia had returned to Swartz Bay due to an unspecified medical emergency experienced by a traveler.

Later, at 6:56 pm, BC Ferries posted on its website that the Spirit of British Columbia was running 98 minutes late for the 5 pm trip. for the previous incident. BC Ferries also shared that information on Twitter.

Monday’s sailing schedule also appears to be busy. According to the BC Ferries website, the 7 a.m. trip out of Swartz Bay is already full with 30 percent availability on the 8 a.m. trip and 24 percent availability on the 9 a.m. trip. , respectively.
The 7 a.m. trip out of Tsawwassen shows 8 percent availability, according to the BC Ferries website. 8 am trips and 9 am trips out of Tsawwassen show 18 percent and 25 percent availability, respectively.
