Ukraine receives second US arms shipment

This Sunday a second consignment of US military equipment, 80 tons of supplies in addition to the 90 tons that arrived at Borispil airport on Saturday, about 29 kilometers east of Kiev.

“The second plane is in Kiev! More than 80 tons of weapons to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities of our friends in the United States! And it is not over yet,” Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said in a message. posted on Twitter.

the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelensky, expressed his gratitude for these shipments of military equipment amid tensions with Russia over the deployment of Russian troops to the border.

“Thank you, President Joe Biden, for the unprecedented diplomatic and military assistance of the United States to Ukraine,” Zelensky posted on Twitter.

Another 90 tons of weapons and ammunition arrived in Borispil on Saturday in the first batch of additional aid for Ukraine approved by the White House in December.

The US Embassy in Ukraine reported these consignments, although they did not specify the exact material of the consignment, except to describe it as “a lethal aid, including ammunition for the defenders of the Ukraine front”.

“This demonstrates the firm commitment of the United States to Ukraine’s sovereign right to self – defense,” the embassy said in a statement on Twitter.

“This shipment, as well as the $ 2.7 billion in aid provided to Ukraine since 2014, demonstrates the United States’ commitment to strengthen its defenses against ever-increasing Russian aggression,” the diplomatic mission explained.

Although the White House approved this new item in December, the information was only released this week, when it was confirmed by the US Secretary of State, Antony Blink.

Russia has repeatedly spoken out against the arrival of military equipment in Ukraine understand that it only serves to increase military tensions in the area, as happened recently with another consignment of light tankers supplied by the United Kingdom.

The Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have also expressed interest in bringing US-made air defense systems to Ukraine.
